Champions of Wimbledon

Hand to Hand, part of the Champions of Wimbledon project, is a community quilt created with Katherine Low Settlement members and funded by the Wimbledon Foundation. This piece is part of a community-led initiative led by artist Adalberto Leonardi in collaboration with Love to Learn, and is currently exhibited in Wimbledon Museum.

This artwork is the first of a series of tapestries which celebrate the beauty of equality and diversity in tennis, recalling the icons of Wimbledon. Each panel has been designed combining elements from drawings by 60 young and old members of Katherine Low Settlement .

I led the production of the artwork with our members and took over 100 hours to complete it. I am always moved by the bond of women who create together and talk about life whilst absorbed in craft activities for hours.
